Bridget Gee Discusses Runway Safety
NATCA Runway Safety Rep Bridget Gee participated in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Second Global Runway Safety Symposium in Lima, Peru last week. She represented the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) in her role as the organization’s Aerodrome Design and Operations Panel member. Gee spoke on two panels at the event, “Root Causes of Runway Accidents and Incidents” and “Preventing Runway Excursions.”
In the first panel, Gee said, “I spoke to the importance of cross training and open communication between industry members, regulators, and airports.
“We also debuted the new Global Runway Safety Action Plan. Our recommendations will be reflected in the GASP (Global Aviation Safety Plan) 2020-2022 edition.
“Safety works when people work together. Presenting the message is one thing. Having representatives from different countries ask you for assistance really makes you feel as if you are making a difference and is priceless.
“Thank you to IFATCA and NATCA for giving me the opportunity to make a difference in the world.”
