Celebrating the Work of NATCA Members This Labor Day
NATCA wishes you a happy Labor Day! Today, we celebrate the unwavering dedication of our members who keep our country moving and recognize the strength that comes from our solidarity and unity.
As our Union approaches our 40th anniversary, we are reminded of all we have accomplished together. In September 1986, 72 delegates representing NATCA’s nine geographical regions met in Chicago to develop a plan for establishing a new labor union for FAA air traffic controllers. Since then, NATCA has grown to represent more than 20,000 bargaining unit employees across 15 bargaining units in the FAA, Department of Defense, and federal contract towers.
Our members are the backbone of our nation’s aviation system, maintaining the safety of the world’s busiest and most complex airspace. Their work is not easy, but it is essential to our modern way of life. They have endured prolonged government shutdowns, outdated and unreliable infrastructure, and chronic understaffing, all while ensuring that more than 2.7 million passengers and 61,000 tons of cargo safely reach their destinations every single day.
Looking ahead, NATCA will continue fighting for our members and their professions. We will advocate for pay parity with the annual federal law enforcement increase, solutions to critical staffing shortages, and passage of legislation that will expand mental health care options for our members.
