September NATCA Calendar Features Syracuse ATCT (SYR)

Turn the page on your NATCA wall calendar, and you’ll see Syracuse ATCT (SYR), surrounded by fall colors. This photo was captured by Joshua Kirk, a NATCA member at SYR since 2019. SYR is a Level 6 Tower and Approach Control facility with 23 NATCA members. The city of Syracuse averages more than 120 inches of snowfall per year due to lake-effect snow that comes off of Lake Ontario, making it the snowiest large city in the United States. The snowfall presents quite a challenge for the SYR controllers, as zero visibility from driving snow sometimes lasts for a day or more.
