Staff Spotlight: Art and Design Administrator Will Thomas
Where are you from, or what places have you lived?
I am originally from Washington. I lived and worked in Richmond, Va., for 10 years, but moved back to Washington 15 years ago.
Where did you go to school, or what other education do you have?
I attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where I majored in Visual Communications. I am currently enrolled in the University of District of Columbia’s Graphic Design program.
How did you come to work at NATCA?
After working the last 17 years as the Art Director for the National Science Teaching Association in-house Art and Design Department, I was very fortunate in my job search to come across the position for an Art and Design Administrator at NATCA.
What’s the most rewarding part of being a member of NATCA’s staff?
It is so rewarding to be able to support NATCA members using my skills and knowledge in visual communication.
What’s the most challenging part of being a member of NATCA’s staff?
The challenge is working to ensure that the graphic design products do a good job fully and accurately representing the profession and the Union.
Do you have any hobbies or any other activities you enjoy outside of your work for NATCA?
I enjoy live concerts and stage plays. I will travel for a good concert. To satisfy part of that, I am an usher at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.
Has there been a favorite moment for you while at NATCA?
Being so new to staff, my favorite moment so far was when Director of Public Affairs Thom Metzger called to offer me the position! I was actively interviewing, but the first time I interviewed with Thom and Deputy Director of Public Affairs Galen Munroe, I knew NATCA was the place for me and this role was at the top of my list. When Thom gave me the call to offer me the position, although I remained calm and professional in my reaction (at least I hope I did), once I hung up the phone, there was definitely a touchdown dance happening.
