Updates to the National Training Initiative

NATCA Family,

Nearly one month ago, NATCA President Nick Daniels and ATO COO Tim Arel reaffirmed their commitment to the National Training Initiative (NTI) and training overall. Part of the affirmation was a promise to make real-time improvements based on feedback from the field. The NTI is focused on the Training the Workforce of the Future initiative and as such, we must continue to evolve, emphasizing creating CPCs efficiently and effectively. Updated NTI documents are hyperlinked in this message for review and application.

The italicized portions below represent some of the highlighted changes:

The weekly facility OJT impediment selections shall be shared with the FacRep before submission. The ATM will download the impediment selection report to send to the FacRep. The ATM will use the toggle to indicate they have shared the OJT impediment selections.

Weekly facility OJT hours report will be provided to the facility each Thursday covering the training from the previous week (Sunday- Saturday).

The weekly facility report will contain every Developmental/CPC-IT in the facility, the number of OJT hours accomplished, and associated impediments.

Change to FAA Order 7210.3DD 2-3-3 b4 (implemented upon programmatic changes in CRU/ATOMS).

NTI CRU-ART Task Names – Assigned Simulation Training

EnRoute trainees: provide relief from 2-3-3 b4 as listed below. The relief would only be provided when the trainee is certified on D-side (RADAR Associate) and training on the associated RADAR position. The requirement to obtain one hour of currency on all positions still exists for those D-side positions that are not correlated to the active RADAR training.

Assigned Simulation Training (AST): Training using high-fidelity simulation in which instructional scenario volume is set to simulate 100% at respective facilities as described in the 3120.4 Instructional Program Guide. The training can be assigned to Terminal or ENROUTE RADAR trainees once they reach 40% of their target hours on a RADAR position.

All the changes were made to ensure collaboration and engagement at the local level and/or to rectify any mistakes in previous iterations. As previously stated, NATCA remains committed to training the workforce of the future. NATCA members at the local level will lead the way in this endeavor.
