October 15th, 2024 New England Bi-Monthly Regional Update

From Steve Brown, NATCA New England ARVP

From Jake Detwiler, NATCA New England ARVP

Hello NATCA New England,

Are you interested in learning more about NATCA, or wanting to get involved but not sure what you are interested in?

Coming in December, NATCA ATX (Activism & Training Expo) is a perfect opportunity to attend multiple classes on a wide variety of topics that our Union is involved in. ATX runs from December 9-12, 2024, but you don’t need to attend the entire time. The conference is structured with shorter classes that are offered twice per day, all week long. This allows members to attend several classes over a single day. Hotel rooms for ATX are covered based on the National Travel Policy, and SRF-12 facilities will have their airfare and travel costs reimbursed as well. Secure the time off now, or even just go on your RDOs! For more information, and to register, head to: https://www.natca.org/events/atx/

While you’re thinking about classes, NATCA has released their NATCA Academy 2025 schedule! See below for the class schedule so you can plan your time off to attend!

Excused Absence for Voting

From Alyssa Nena, BED Facility Vice President

Did you know that on June 22, 2022, the FAA and NATCA signed an MOU regarding the implementation of EO 14019, “Promoting Access to Voting”?

 Under the MOU, bargaining unit employees (BUEs) may request up to four (4) hours of excused absence to vote on election day or on an early voting day. BUEs may request excused absence for:

  • Federal general elections;
  • Primaries and caucuses;
  • State, local, municipal, tribal, and territorial level elections;
  • Special congressional elections that are not held on the date of a federal general election;
  • Serving as a non-partisan poll worker (including training); and
  • Participating in non-partisan observer activities at the federal, state, local (i.e., county, and municipal), tribal, and territorial level (including training).

BUEs may use excused absence for travel time to and from their polling location but may not use excused absence during a non-workday or during overtime work hours. The FAA will grant requests for excused absence subject to staffing and workload and will make necessary operational adjustments to accommodate a BUE’s request. BUEs may use excused absence for the purposes outlined in the MOU multiple times per year but are limited to four (4) hours per election event.
