Staff Spotlight: Meeting Planning & Events Representative Mindy Soranno
We have an amazing National Office staff that our membership can be very proud of. Today, we feature one of the newest members of NATCA staff, Meeting Planning and Events Representative Mindy Soranno. Mindy joined NATCA’s staff in March. She previously worked at the Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA), where she was responsible for business development and client relations, and also managed membership and special projects. Welcome to the NATCA family, Mindy!
Where are you from, or what places have you lived?
I was born in Washington and grew up in Bowie, Md. I have lived all around the metro area, then ventured to Chicago, Virginia, lived in Ohio for a while, and now I’m back in Northern Virginia.
Where did you go to school, or what other education do you have?
I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware.
How did you come to work at NATCA?
I have worked with NATCA through my job at ATCA, so I knew some of the people and of course knew about the Union; I saw the job posted on the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) website and knew this is where I wanted to be working, so my dream job came true!
What’s the most rewarding part of being a member of NATCA’s staff?
I am overwhelmed by the kindness of absolutely every single person I have met on the NATCA staff – the genuine will they have in wanting me to be happy is a wonderful reward.
Do you have any hobbies or any other activities you enjoy outside of your work for NATCA?
Since 1999 I have been a triathlete, and in 2001, I became a marathon runner. I was never an athlete growing up and now I cannot imagine my life without these sports, which have taught me perseverance! I have completed 10 Ironman Triathlons and countless sprint/Olympic/half Ironman events. I have not missed a season of triathlon since 1999. I am on a marathon journey right now, doing a marathon in every state; I have 38 done, 12 to go, and I am saving Hawaii for last. I also love cooking, reading, and stand-up paddle boarding.
