Sept. 7, 2017 // NATCA Congratulates The Honorable Jane Garvey on Receiving the L. Welch Pogue Lifetime Achievement Award
WASHINGTON – National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) President Paul Rinaldi and Executive Vice President Trish Gilbert today issued a joint statement congratulating the Honorable Jane F. Garvey, who this evening will receive the L. Welch Pogue Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Aviation Club of Washington, D.C.:
“We congratulate Jane on this prestigious and very well-deserved honor for a career dedicated to public service and the advancement of transportation safety. NATCA is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. We remember how instrumental Jane’s leadership was as we worked to build a collaborative relationship with the FAA during an important time in both our history and that of the National Airspace System.
“Jane was the first FAA administrator to serve a five-year fixed term. Her leadership on safety issues throughout her career has been historic, aggressive, and courageous. She dedicated her term to the modernization of the air traffic control system. More modernization of the system occurred under her five-year FAA direction than in the previous 20 years. She believed in the importance of better training and tackling big issues directly, such as alleviating flight delays with the smart initiatives. Jane also was responsible for navigating the aviation industry through the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“Jane’s friendship, leadership, and guidance since leaving the FAA have been very valuable to us. We are proud to salute her today as she receives the L. Welch Pogue Lifetime Achievement Award.”
