Benefits Spotlight: Pet Discounts
Get pet insurance that covers your pets’ needs starting as low as $11.99 per month. All breeds of cats and dogs are guaranteed acceptance and lifetime enrollment with no annual coverage limit.

With the Union Plus program, you also get to choose:

  • Your choice of veterinarian.
  • Amount of coverage from $1,500 to $10,000 per medical condition, for life of the pet, with an unlimited number of medical conditions covered.
  • Deductibles from $100 to $1,000. Pet medical insurance deductions do not automatically increase as your pets’ age. Deductible is once per medical condition for the life of the pet.
  • Additional coverage discounts ranging 5% to 15% for multiple pets, younger pets, and policy renewals
  • Additional 5% discount if you register your micro-chipped pet with 24PetWatch Lost Pet Recovery Services.

Additional benefits:

  • Unlike some competitors, Union Plus Pet Insurance covers both the diagnosis (e.g. lab tests, x-rays, etc.) and treatment for both accidents and illnesses.
  • Fast pet insurance claims turn-around — typically within seven to 10 business days. You can even submit your insurance claim via email at [email protected].
  • For pre-existing conditions, coverage may be available for previously treated conditions. Medical records indicating your pet has been symptom-free for a minimum of 12 months is required to determine coverage availability.
  • Coverage up to your policy limits no matter when you need it.
  • Shorter wait period — only 14 days or less — to use coverage after enrollment.

Cambridge Corner: Change in TSP Default Investment
Last week, the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board published a Final Rule specifying that all new enrollees in the Thrift Savings Plan who have not chosen an allocation will be automatically enrolled in an age-appropriate Lifecycle Fund. Those employees formerly defaulted into the conservative G Fund.

The Final Rule, published Aug. 28 in the Federal Register, affects participants who are first enrolled in the TSP after Sept. 5. The initial contribution allocation into a Lifecycle Fund will remain in effect until the participant changes it or the account balance drops to zero.

In the case of rehired participants who have a positive account balance and a previous contribution allocation in effect—say in the G Fund—that allocation will remain the same until the employee changes it. However, if that rehired employee begins with a zero account balance, new contributions will be allocated to a Lifecycle Fund.
