WASHINGTON – National Air Traffic Controllers Association President Paul Rinaldi praised the news today that President Obama has signed into law the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill, which will now give the U.S. aviation system – already the world’s safest – a much-needed boost and lead to even safer air travel.

“This is a great day for our National Airspace System and we thank the President and Congress for bringing this long process to a successful conclusion. The FAA bill creates jobs, restores a fair collective bargaining process for tens of thousands of dedicated aviation safety professionals and provides for a safer and more efficient air traffic control system.

“During the past three years, NATCA and the FAA have been working collaboratively on upgrading and modernizing our system. We have taken great pride in our role as a partner on the leading edge of NextGen implementation and equipment modernization. This new technology will help reduce delays, give controllers better tools with which to perform their jobs even more efficiently and provide a platform for further technological and safety enhancements.

“This four-year bill will provide the funding stability we need to develop and train our next generation of controllers along with the next generation of equipment and procedures. It also ensures that the controllers and technicians who use this equipment and procedures every day will continue to be involved in their development.”

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association represents over 20,000 highly skilled controllers, engineers and other safety-related professionals.
