NATCA Correction to Tyler Pounds Field News Release - (11/7/1997)

NATCA Correction to Tyler Pounds Field News Release WASHINGTON - A National Air Traffic Controllers Association news release dated Oct. 20 titled, "Mid Air Collision At Contracted Out Tower," contained erroneous statements about the skill and experience level of the manager on duty at the time of the mid air collision. The manager employed by Robinson-Van Vuren Associates, Inc., had numerous years of experience and cannot be considered a vice, as indicated in the release. He also did not decline or refuse to submit to post-accident drug testing. "Information provided to the NATCA air traffic controller in Longview, Texas, was inaccurate and incomplete, but was not intended to mislead the public," said NATCA General Counsel James Morin. "We regret any misperception of the accident that occurred because of our premature release of information."
