Vectors for Hope Charity Fly-In Event Scheduled for Sept. 28
Friday, May 03, 2013

Vectors for Hope was founded by air traffic controllers in the Houston area with the idea of raising awareness for general aviation through local fly-ins that benefit local charities.

This all started when a few members wanted to get more involved with the community as well as with other members in the facility. They wanted to spend some of their time making a difference in the community.

The idea of a fly-in came to mind. "We felt it would be a great way to not only raise money for charities in the area but to also promote and educate our community about aviation," said Houston TRACON (I90) Member Adam Rhodes. "The event soon snowballed in to much more than a fly-in. We have partnered with the NATCA Charitable Foundation to help solicit and raise money for this event."

This year's Vectors for Hope Charity Fly-In event will be on September 28th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at David Wayne Hooks Airport (KDWH) in Spring, Texas, near Houston.

At this point, Rhodes said, it will be almost an air show; everything short of aerobatic acts during the event. There will be sponsorship booths from many different organizations, an aviation flea market, airplane, seaplane and helicopter rides, and kids activities to include jump houses and face painting. Aircraft displays will include a P51 Mustang, L39, a Stearman and local law enforcement aircraft.

The event will also included a silent auction and raffle and plenty of food from various food vendors that will be giving a portion of their sales to NATCA Charitable Foundation. "We will also have a live painting done by Rolando Diaz, an internationally renowned artist who will then auction the piece off  at the event to raise money for the charity," Rhodes said. "He will give 80 percent of the painting proceeds to the NATCA Charitable Foundation." For more information about Rolando, you can visit:  http://www.rodiaz.com

"We encourage the support of our entire membership to contribute toward NCF as well as contributions for silent auction and raffle items for the event," Rhodes said. If you are interested in making a contribution or donating a raffle/silent auction item please email: info@vectorsforhope.org for more information and NCF tax deduction forms.

Rhodes said they are also selling Vectors for Hope T-shirts for a minimum contribution of $25.  The money raised from these shirts will go towards the operating costs of the charity fly-in event and any money left over will be donated to NCF.  If you are interested in purchasing a shirt you can email info@vectorsforhope.org. The shirts will have the NCF logo on the front left chest in all white.  On the back of the shirt the Vectors for Hope logo will be in the middle as well as the date and location of the fly-in.  You can also order a shirt through the event's Paypal account here.  Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.

Please also take a moment to "like" and share the event's Facebook page at:  http://www.facebook.com/VectorsforHope.  This will be a great way to stay informed on the upcoming fly-in as routinely post updates to this page.
