THIS WEEK’S NOTEBOOK: NATCA Wins NLRB Election at La Crosse, Wisc., FCT
Friday, May 03, 2013

On Wednesday, April 17, NATCA officially added La Crosse, Wisc., Federal Contract Tower to the union family!

The National Labor Relations Board election was completed and the ensuing setup process began. La Crosse is the 65th FCT that NATCA now represents. It’s also one of the towers slated for closure under sequestration in June. NATCA continues to fight those closures and all negative impacts of sequestration.

“It is great to be a part of giving a voice to fellow controllers who previously did not have one and also strengthening our NATCA membership,” said Organizing Committee Chairman John Bratcher. “It is truly amazing to see give a collective voice to a worker who otherwise would not have one. It is with the continued efforts to organize further locals within NATCA that we will ensure the future of our union and our profession.”

Information Technology Committee Seeking SMEs

The Information Technology Committee is looking for members to serve as subject matter experts in these three specialties:

1.  NATCA offers full website hosting services on our own servers that you would find at any hosted vendor. Websites are offered to Locals, Regions, Committees, NATCA business and personal member use. We offer traditional website hosting with Windows technology and also offer a fully supported Joomla and PHP/MySQL environment. Interested members should be willing to learn or already have knowledge and experience with the typical tasks for the administration, support and maintenance of our NATCA website environment.

2.  The NATCA IT Committee maintains GATS, the official grievance tracking system for NATCA. GATS is a custom-built internet-based application used by representatives nationwide. GATS runs on an Oracle database on one of NATCA's multiple internet servers. It is written in Oracle Application Express. Since 2008, much of the programming has been handled by a contractor, who develops new capabilities as directed by the NEB. Database administration is handled by another contractor, while server maintenance involves a third contractor who also handles all of NATCA's internet servers. Database updates, Windows updates, coordination with the physical data center, development platform updates and periodic issues are all handled by these personnel.

3.  Mobile Apps developer.

If you are interested in one of these positions, please contact Mike Robicheau at mrobicheau@natca.net.
