NATCA/UNUM Long Term Disability Open Enrollment Period – Enroll Now!
Friday, March 01, 2013

Now through April 30 is the open enrollment period for NATCA members who currently do not participate in NATCA’s group long-term disability program. You may enroll without answering any health questions.

This week’s featured questions:

Q: Once your coverage begins, what happens if you are temporarily not working?

A: If you are on a temporary layoff, and if premium is paid, you will be covered through the end of the month that immediately follows the month in which your temporary layoff begins. Example: If you are furloughed today and premiums are not paid because you aren't getting a paycheck, you will continue to be covered through the end of March. At that time any back premiums will be due.

Q: What will UNUM use for monthly earnings if you become disabled during a covered layoff or leave of absence?

A: If you become disabled while on a covered layoff or leave of absence, we will use your monthly earnings from your employer in effect just prior to the date your absence begins.

Early Enrollment Raffle: The Benefits Committee is going to raffle off a new iPad at Communicating for Safety. Each member who signs up from the start of the open enrollment period to the second day of CFS (March 5) will be entered into the raffle. They do not have to be present at CFS to win.

Shorter Elimination Period Available: Because of the success in last year’s open season, NATCA was able to secure a reduction in the elimination period without any increase in fees. All members that are currently enrolled in the 120-day option will be enrolled in the new 90-day elimination period. This option will also be available to all new enrollees.

Tell-a-Friend Campaign:

Regional Contest -The region that gains the most participation by percentage of eligible members will have a check for $5,000 (donated by UNUM) presented on its behalf to the NATCA Charitable Foundation at NATCA in Washington 2013. To ensure the fairest possible playing field, this will be determined by the percentage increase of eligible members not participating in the plan as of February 1.

Local Incentive
- In addition to the contest, the Benefits Committee will give each local a $10 NATCA Store gift certificate for every member who signs up during the open enrollment period.
