Dr. Quay Snyder of the Aviation Medicine Advisory Service (AMAS) traveled to Atlanta last week to visit the area's three largest facilities and explore several issues related to the health and physical well-being of the NATCA members who work there.

Facility representatives Rick Baugh and Mike Ryan gave Snyder tours of ZTL and A80, respectively, and Snyder also got a tour of ATL from NATCA members. Snyder was very impressed with what he saw, and considered the trip a very valuable learning experience.

"Not only did I learn a tremendous amount about the operations that will help me and my colleagues when representing NATCA members with medical issues to the FAA, but I also gained a new appreciation for the work conditions and facilities that challenge your members each day," Snyder said.

Snyder explored several issues with members, including the quality and conditions of the chairs controllers sit in every single day. He also discussed with them the color vision, field of vision and hearing requirements, and the break facilities.

"It was a very memorable day for me in my aeromedical education process," he said.
