Brothers and sisters,

Gillespie Tower in San Diego needs your help more than ever. Controller Darrell Daniel lost his five-year-old daughter Ariyana on March 4, 2012. Her nine-year-old brother Elijah Marshall was also in the car accident, and although he was not Darrell’s son, he treated him as his own. They have two local fundraisers and a PayPal account (link below) to help the family through this tragedy. Facility representative Kelly Moore sent this message earlier in the week detailing the incident and how we can help:

From Gillespie Tower in San Diego:

On Sunday evening March 4th, our coworker and friend Darrell Daniel lost his 5-year-old daughter Ariyana Daniel in a car accident on the northbound I-15. Her older brother, Thurgood "Elijah" Marshall, who was 9, was also killed in the accident. Although not his son, Darrell had raised Elijah for years as his own.

Having known Darrell for several years, I have witnessed his love for his children first hand and can say without exaggeration that they were his entire world. A man who dedicated so much of himself to his children's happiness is the absolute least deserving of such an overwhelming and incomprehensible loss. The family has asked for the community's help with the cost of the services. Please help in any way you can by spreading the word and asking for participation in two local fundraisers:

-On Thursday March 8th the San Diego Motorcycle and Social clubs will hold a bike night at 7pm at the "Hawg Pen" located at 4278 Market Street San Diego, CA 92102.

-On Sunday, March 12th, the family will be selling dinner plates from 12pm to 5pm at 5241 Santa Margarita Street San Diego, CA 92114. The plates will include baked chicken, rice and gravy, collard greens, and a dinner roll for $10.00.

Additionally, if you are unable to attend the fundraisers, you can donate to the family directly through Paypal to "Elijah and Ariyana's Funeral Donations." Any questions regarding the donations or fundraisers should be directed and additional information may be found through Facebook by searching for "Darrell Doughboi Daniel."

Please keep Darrell and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of their two children.

Thank you for all of your help.
