NATCA Charitable Foundation: Record-Breaking Charity Night at CFS 2012
Friday, February 10, 2012

The NATCA Charitable Foundation (NCF) had a great week at Communicating for Safety (CFS) in Atlanta reeling in $12,000 in donations,  $4,000 more than last year. NCF held several events that led to this exceptional donation and a special “thanks” goes out to their many volunteers that helped them in a big way.

The Build-a-Bike contest, developed by NCF Co-Founder and comptroller Cathy Meachum, had eight teams put together kids bicycles, training wheels and all, and decorated them in Princess and NATCA themes before contestants raced their bikes around a room full of NATCA members and the like.

“There’s nothing funnier than a grown man sitting on a kid’s bike with training wheels in a tiara,” said NCF Director Elena Nash.

Mercy Flight Southeast, a non-profit organization that provides free air transportation to medical facilities when no other means of travel are available, came to CFS and their Chief Executive Officer Steve Purello participated as a guest judge for the Build-a-Bike contest. Prizes were awarded to the team that completed the bike assembly first, the team that finished the race first and the team that had best decorated bike. All the bikes were donated to needy children across the Fayetteville, N.C. area.

One of NCF Director’s Betsy Beaumont and a team of volunteers helped with the Blackjack and Texas Hold ‘em Poker night. Tables were filled as people lined up to for a shot at the prizes.

Possibly the biggest rewards of the night were at the Big Board Auction table where the highest bidder received among 15 prizes including two world-wide round trip airfare tickets donated by Delta or a Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley autographed guitar.

“Because of the overwhelming support of the Communicating For Safety participants and these individuals, NCF had a record-breaking night,” said Nash.

All proceeds from charity night went to the NCF. NCF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all volunteer organization, helping to make a difference to the under-served expanding across the country. NCF is NATCA's charity of Choice, and involved in several fund-raising events, including one at the upcoming NATCA Denver Convention 2012.
