Communicating for Safety: Important Information

In accordance with our collective bargaining agreements, NATCA at the national level will be providing a list of employees desiring to attend at least 45 days (no later than Dec. 15th) prior to the conference so that a total of 24 hours of excused absence can be granted.

If an employee's RDO falls on one of those days, they will need to make an RDO swap in order to receive excused absence. If an employee is working a 10 hour CWS on those days, they may request 2 hours of leave each day or request to change their schedule to work five-eight hours days that week. Requests to change to five-eight hour days shall be approved, staffing and workload permitting.

The Agency does not pay travel, per diem, tuition, or other related costs. The Agency supports the Communicating For Safety Conference (CFS)  and managers are encouraged to release as many employees as wish to attend. CFS is scheduled for January 30 through February 1, 2012, at the Westin Atlanta Peachtree Hotel in downtown Atlanta.  Plan to arrive on Monday morning Jan. 30 and depart Thursday, Feb. 2 in order to take full advantage of all of the presentations and activities, including the Archie League Medal of Safety Awards banquet on the evening of Feb. 1. This semi-formal dinner and award ceremony is an integral part of the CFS experience and should not to be missed.

You can register for the conference and put your name on the duty time list at the same Web site Make sure that you accomplish both your conference registration and your intent to be put on the excused absence list while you are on the website. As in the past, NATCA will pay 100% of a participant’s room charge and tax if they share a room with another dues-paying member and 50% of the room/tax if they choose to room alone.  The nights covered this year will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Watch your email for frequent updates, a mobile app link, presentation schedules and information about CFS 2012.
