NATCA Presents Rep. Giffords with Plaque
Thursday, May 26, 2011

On Tuesday, the staff of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords graciously accepted a plaque from NATCA on behalf of the congresswoman. Spearheaded by members of Tucson TRACON (U90), the special gift was designed to return the love and support the Arizona congresswoman has been so kind to have shown us over the years.

Though she is still in recovery and not yet back to the Hill, Giffords' staffers are busy at work within the Longworth Office, keeping congressional duties flowing as they await the return of their beloved leader. This week, it was Legislative Assistant Lauren Alfred who greeted NATCA members during the NATCA in Washington congressional visit. Western Pacific RVP Ham Ghaffari and U90 members BJ Florence and Brandie Peace participated in a detailed discussion with Alfred regarding the topic of controller fatigue, in which they received both understanding and extreme appreciation from the staffer in regards to their profession.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the group presented the plaque made for Giffords, which includes her flight details from DMA (Davis Monthan Air Base, Tucson AZ) to HOU, and reads:

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

Your Flight to Recovery

"We Guide You Home"

We wish Rep. Giffords the best of luck through this time of recovery, and look forward to having her back in Washington, D.C.!
